Kris Becker - Owner
Trees, by most definitions, are large woody plants with a single main trunk. To paraphrase Dr. Alex Shigo, trees are woody, long lived, compartmentalizing perennials. This series of unique characteristics has allowed trees to dominate the vegetation of large areas of the world.
Arboriculture is both an art and a science. It combines skill and craft with knowledge and fact. Thus, a foundation for the practice of arboriculture is a thorough understanding of how trees grow. The skilled arborist learns how a tree grows and how to care for and manage it in a way that supports its growth and development. Like physicians, arborist use knowledge of tree growth and development to diagnose problems, assess potential, and prescribe treatments. And, just as in medicine, prescription before diagnosis is malpractice; the arborist must understand tree biology before embracing a program of care.
